The United Nations General Assembly Legal Committee has been an integral part of the United Nations structure since its inception in 1947. Established to address legal matters of a general nature, the committee has continuously evolved to adapt to the changing dynamics of global governance, international law, and emerging challenges presented by technological advancements.

First agenda item assigned to the committee is related to global big data security and privacy as the exponential growth of digital technologies, big data has emerged as a transformative force driving innovation, economic growth, and societal progress. However, with the proliferation of data-driven technologies, concerns regarding security breaches, unauthorized access, and infringement of privacy rights have become increasingly prevalent. Due to the lack of its global governance, big data does not only constitute a threat to the international security but also cause corporations to utilize big data to increase their profits unfairly. Therefore, the Sixth Committee's deliberations on this agenda item will pave the way for establishing universally accepted norms, standards, and regulations that strike a balance between leveraging data-driven opportunities and mitigating associated risks including nations and other actors alike.

Artificial Intelligence is offering unprecedented opportunities to enhance efficiency, drive innovation, and address complex challenges across various sectors. Nevertheless, the rapid advancement and deployment of AI technologies have raised profound ethical, legal, and societal implications that transcend national boundaries. The absence of a cohesive regulatory framework governing AI development and deployment poses risks related to accountability, transparency, and equitable access to benefit which may create a chaotic environment for both national and international political area, and most importantly pose an existential threat to humanity. Hence, the Legal committee will indulge in discussions on regulation of AI to counter aforementioned risks
